Completions Not Appearing

  • Check that the AI model has finished downloading. The menu bar icon shows download progress while a model is being fetched.
  • Make sure the app is enabled for the current text field: click the Cotypist icon next to the text field, or check Cotypist's App Settings.
  • Verify that Accessibility permission is granted in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility.
  • If you are using Google Docs, you need to enable Accessibility mode first.
  • Try typing at least a few words — Cotypist needs some context to generate suggestions.
  • Restart Cotypist from its menu bar icon, or restart your Mac.
  • In some apps (notably Slack and Chrome), completions can occasionally stop appearing. Restarting the affected app usually fixes this.
  • Try the force-activate completions shortcut to check whether completions work at all. You can configure this shortcut in Cotypist's Shortcuts settings.
If completions were working before but stopped, try quitting and reopening Cotypist. If the issue persists, try restarting your Mac. If that doesn't help either, please contact us.

No Suggestions in the Middle of a Paragraph

Cotypist shows suggestions when you are typing at the end of a line. If your cursor is in the middle of existing text, suggestions may not appear.

As a workaround, try inserting a newline where you'd like to continue typing. Cotypist will then treat it as the end of a line and show suggestions. Once you're done, remove the temporary newline to rejoin the text.

Model Download Issues

The AI model download can take a while depending on your internet connection. If the download stalls or fails repeatedly, you can download the model file directly and place it in the correct folder.

Direct download links:

After downloading, place the file in the Models folder. You can open it from Cotypist's settings, or navigate manually to:
~/Library/Application Support/app.cotypist.Cotypist/Models/

Then restart Cotypist.

The E4B model requires an Apple Silicon Mac with a Max or Ultra chip and at least 23 GB of RAM. The E2B model works on any Apple Silicon Mac with 9 GB or more of RAM.
